![]() Once they grow beyond a certain scope, they tend to become a bit obtuse to try to figure out. I had a look at DDLC so far, but to be honest, I think I'd be better helped by relatively simpler games. Indeed, I already worked out how to decompile VNs after being reminded of the possibility by another comment here. Wow, thank you so much! That is extremely helpful. Hopefully that was helpful and let me know if you need more specifics! I had people helping me and I'm happy to pass around what they taught me. I'm sure you have already read the tutorials, but I included it, just in case someone else stumble upon this thread in the future. Sorry, I'm on mobile so I am unable to include more details/be more specific and include better links because they are on my PC. My only problem is I cannot unpack rpyc files (edit: please let me know if you figured it out! I'd be sooo grateful). Afterwards, it's as easy as running "unrpa script.rpa" etc to unpack the file you want. You can refer to the sidebar, there is a guide there. ![]() In order to break them down, you need to install a certain python addon. I learned how to arrange codes, make multiple files to separate scenes/acts, see how they make different sprites, etc. Unless mentioned, they are free-to-play.) The Average Everyday Adventures of Samantha BrownĪ Summer's End (a fantastic VN that captures East Asia vibe in the 80s, not a free-to-play)Īny VNs on itch are a great learning source. SC2VN (a VN about Starcraft 2 comp scene) Love Thyself (a spin off VN of the Endless Space series) Some known VNs that are helpful to me are: I also like to break down games to see how they run certain things. I know there is the tutorial, and it does help in many cases, but it still leaves a lot of my questions unanswered, which is why I was hoping to look at some more specific, other projects. Are such open-source projects available, and if so, where might I find them? Of course, there are a lot of games on the Ren'Py website, but these I think have been compiled to be directly playable, rather than having the code open for inspection by amateur programmers like myself. Rather than ask a ton of specific questions about individual things I would like to do with screens, menus, buttons, etc., I thought it might be more efficient to be able to look at examples of finished games that use various such features and see how it was done in the code for those games. I always have trouble with things like GUI/HUD programming, and though of course Ren'Py takes a lot of that out of your hands, thankfully, there are still things you need to do yourself as the programmer. I'm new to Ren'Py, but I have some experience programming in Python and a few other languages. TLDR: Are there open-source Ren'Py projects, so that I can look up the code and learn how certain things are done, and if so, where and how can I get them?
